Due to ignition control monitoring it is highly recommended to replace all the direct ignition coils to maintain uniform resistance values between all cylinders. Replacement of individual coils may not resolve CEL codes long term.

The direct ignition coils on your Audi and Volkswagen create the high voltage needed for the spark plug to ignite the air fuel mixture compressed in each cylinder. On earlier ignition systems, a single ignition coil was used to create spark for all the cylinders that was distributed using spark plug wires and spark plug wires were used to carry the spark from the coil through a distributor to each spark plug. Over time the wires would become degraded, weakening the spark, and cause the vehicle to lose power until the spark plug wires are changed, usually every 30,000 miles. Newer ignition systems used by Audi and Volkswagen have eliminated the need for spark plug wires and ignition distributors by directly connecting each spark plug with its only ignition coil, leaving the spark plugs as the only part of the ignition system requiring routine maintenance. A failure of one or more of these direct ignition coils will cause cylinder misfire resulting in poor fuel economy, lack of engine power, a rough running engine, the engine to not start, or the engine to stall leaving you stranded. The Bosch 0221604115 ignition coil is an original equipment direct replacement ignition coil for ignition coil part numbers 07K905715D/E/F/G, 06E905115A/B/C/D/E/F, 06F905115E/F, 06H905115A/B, and 06D905115A/C/D/F/G/J/K used by Audi and Volkswagen on various models from 2005-2018. Due to ignition coil monitory, Bosch highly recommends to replace all direct ignition coils at the same time to ensure uniform resistance values between all cylinders.
