- Original equipment Bosch 0445010541 high-pressure fuel injection fuel pump
- This camshaft driven fuel pump pressurizes the fuel to approximately 2000psi to atomize the fuel prior to being injected into the engine on Audi and Volkswagen 2.0L CBEA and CJAA direct injection L4 TDI diesel engines
- (1) per vehicle
- This Bosch 0445010541 high-pressure fuel injection fuel pump replaces failed high-pressure fuel pumps that are unable to atomize the fuel and causing poor engine performance and excessive fuel consumption
- Fits Audi A3 TDI 2010-2013, Volkswagen Beetle TDI 2013-2014, Golf TDI 2010-2014, Jetta TDI 2009-2014, and Jetta Cup Edition 2010
The high pressure fuel pump on modern direct injection engines, boosts the pressure of the fuel entering the fuel injectors. It is a mechanical fuel pump mounted to the engine that works in conjunction with the electric fuel pump to increase fuel pressure from 50-80psi to as high as 2000psi so that the fuel is atomised prior to entering the engine for more complete engine combustion that produces:
- More power
- Less harmful emissions
- Greater fuel economy
Like other mechanical fuel pumps, the high pressure fuel pump uses camshaft movement to draw in fuel, pressurize it, then push the fuel into a fuel injector where it is delivered to the engine.
Signs of a Failing High Pressure Fuel Pump
- Poor performance
- Increased fuel consumption
- Engine not starting
- Vehicle’s check engine light to illuminate
Because the high pressure fuel pump is the secondary, and not the main fuel pump, when it fails your vehicle will likely continue to run. However, your vehicle will greatly lose performance, have increased vehicle emissions, and have very poor fuel economy. In addition, your vehicle’s engine management computer may store a fuel pump fault, illuminate the check engine light, and may even enter your vehicle into limp home mode that locks your vehicle into a lower gear and will prevent your vehicle from exceeding 25mph.
Replacing Your Vehicle’s High Pressure Fuel Pump
Your vehicle’s high pressure fuel pump should only be replaced if it has failed. Some high pressure fuel pumps are equipped with pressure sensors that cannot be replaced separately and require replacement of the high pressure fuel pump when the sensor fails.
Located on the fuel injection rail, high pressure fuel pumps are often easy to access and replace. Due to their location, high pressure fuel pumps can usually be replaced within an hour or two. However, due to the high fuel pressure the pump creates, replacing the fuel lines to and from the high pressure fuel pump is highly recommended but can be more difficult to access.
