Wiper blades are used to clean and clear the front windshield and rear windshield on your vehicle. Wiper blades are rubber or silicone blades with a metal or plastic frame that use a spring loaded wiper arm to hold them tight against the windshield and remove water, ice, snow and dirt as the wiper arm drags the blade across the windshield. Being made of rubber or silicon, the blade that contacts the windshield wears, and heat and sun can cause the rubber blades to rot which makes wiper blades needing to be replaced every six months to a year.

Replacing Your Wiper Blades

When replacing your wiper blades, be sure to use the same length wiper blades as the blades you are replacing. This will ensure the replacement wipers will keep your entire field of vision clear and the wiper blades will not collide with each other or the frame of your windshield.

Most wiper blades can be replaced easily depending on the type of wiper arm attachment. A simple unlocking of a tab along with a twist, a slide, or a pull will remove most wiper blades from the wiper arm. Some vehicles have had the original equipment wiper blades replaced with aftermarket wiper blades that use different wiper blade mounts to attach to the wiper arms. Always check the wiper blades on your vehicle to verify the wiper mount prior to selecting an original equipment or aftermarket wiper blade if you haven’t owned your vehicle since it was new.
