The fan blade on the engine of your Land Rover is used to draw fresh air through the radiator, transmission cooler, and AC condenser to cool the engine and transmission, as well as, allowing the AC system to function. Fan blades are usually made of plastic, have multiple blades, and a center gun with a metal ring to attach directly to a water pump hub, fan clutch or electric motor. Some fan blades have a plastic ring around the outside of the blades to prevent objects from being able to come in contact with one of the fan blades.
Due to fan blades being made of plastic, overtime they can develop cracks that can cause the fan blades to break off and damage your engine and radiator.
Replacing Your Land Rover Fan Blades
Replacing the fan blade attached to water pump hubs or fan clutches may require the removal of fan shrouds, radiator hoses, drive belts, and the radiator to access the bolts or nuts that hold the fan blades. Fan blades run by electric motors usually require removal and replacement of the fan assembly because the fan is not independently replaceable.
