Your Volvo 240 fuel pump relay is the control switch that turns the fuel pump on and off. When the ignition switch is turned to the on position, the relay coil energizes closing the fuel pump circuit and supply power to the fuel pump for it to run. Once the vehicle is turned off, the relay opens the fuel pump circuit turning off the pump. If the relay coil fails, the fuel pump circuit will not close, and no power will flow to the fuel pump. The Stribel 5148300005 fuel pump relay is an original equipment replacement for the Volvo 3523608 fuel pump relay used on the 1985-1993 240, 1985-1992 740, 1984-1987 760, 1985-1987 780, and 1991-1995 940 models.
