The oil cooler on your Audi and Volkswagen uses coolant to remove heat from the engine oil flowing through the oil filter. Mounted on the to the engine between the engine block and the oil filter, oil flows through the oil cooler into the oil filter and back through the cooler to the engine. Simultaneously, engine coolant is pumped into the oil cooler so that it can cool the oil being passed through it. Over time, degradation of the oil cooler due to heat and oil/coolant contaminants can cause the oil cooler to leak internally, sending coolant into the engine oil passages and engine oil into the coolant passages. When this happens, the oil cooler must be replaced immediately to prevent critical damage to the engine or cooling system.

• This Nissen 90607 oil cooler is a direct replacement for the 068117021B oil cooler found on most Audi 100, 4000, 80, 90, A4 1.8, A6 2.8 AFC, and Cabriolet models from 1982-1999, and most Volkswagen Beetle 1.9, Cabio, Cabriolet, Corrado, EuroVan, Golf, Jetta, Passat, and Vanagon models from 1986-2001.
