Your VW tail lights allow drivers behind you to see you at night or when weather conditions make it difficult to see. They also are incorporated with brake lights and turn signals to alert drivers behind you that you are slowing down, stopping, or about to make a turn or change lanes at all times. Some tail lights even have reverse lights incorporated in them to illuminate behind your VW when backing up and alert pedestrians and other vehicles that you are backing up.

Tail lights can be located in the rear and rear corner body panels, trunk, rear hatch, rear doors, or tailgate.

Replacing Your VW Tail Lights

Sun damage and collisions are the most common reasons to replace tail lights. However, electrical connection issues, light bulb circuit boards, and bulb sockets can corrode or crack causing any of the bulbs located in the tail lights to not illuminate and requiring the tail light to be replaced.

Tail lights are often easily accessed through the vehicle’s trunk, interior rear body panels, hatch, or tailgate. Oftentimes you’ll need to remove panel clips to pull back interior panels or trim to access the tail lights for removal and replacement.
