Quality of Zimmermann rotors and drums starts with high end materials. Units are made out of non-machined castings containing flake graphite. The grey cast iron is then treated to other ingredients to stabilize its properties for durability and machining. Zimmermann compound is matched to each vehicle’s factory specifications analyzed from OE discs and drums and not limited to supplements like copper, molybdenum, titanium and carbon materials. The Formula Z brake discs are suitable for motorsport applications due to a special design. The friction ring is cast iron, the hub is an aluminum alloy and these are connected together with steel pins. This floating construction design reduces the thermal buffering of the friction ring by allowing it to expand under heavy braking demand. The lighter weight aluminum alloy hub also greatly reduces the unsprung mass for better performance.
